HD TDM End

So protools 11 will not work with a regular HD tdm system and digi interface?

Im trying to decide which way im going to go hardware wise. HDX is so pricey. Is protools going back to hardware locked? And is native going to be around for awhile? Im a small studio and cant justify spending 19 grand on an HDX 2.

Probably asked before but i did not see it stickied

TDM is going by the way side because it is stuck as a 32 bit system, can't use higher ADC rates, and can't create 32 bit FP files. It had a good run, and there's no reason you could still run it with PT10 or older.

Native systems aren't going anywhere. Plenty of great interfaces out there since PT opened up to hardware freedom (which aslo isn't going anywhere).

And why would you need HDx 2? You say you're and small studio and one HDx card is suppose to be equivalent to 3-6 HD cards, or something like that. And don't overlook HD|N. That said, if you are okay with a 32 channel I/O limit, there are some killer interfaces to use with "basic" Pro Tools.

with PT10 and HD6 in a magma with loads of plugins

i cannot rationalize any expediture on something "new" for a long long time

how much more can i ask per hour in a dwindling music industry?

hold fast is kind of a no brainer really

higher than 32 bit gonna make that BS mp3 sound better...doubt it?

Yes it had a great run. Mine still runs great. I probably wont switch for awhile. But when the time comes to move to a higher version of protools im gonna need something new.

So one HDX card as powerful as HD3 even on track count? Wow. If thats the case i could just buy one of them. I could always add another card later if needed.

I thought about getting something new with a new avid interface and using this as a B rig possibly.

256 voices (@ 48k) per card, no hit to plug-ins the voces have a dedicated chip (also DSP > Native > DSP trip is only 1 voice per channel not 2)

...and how much better does your music sound ?

especially at mp3?

how much more do you make per hour for spending all that money?

do you need a shrink?

*cough*

Didn't you make an upgrade fairly recently? I thought the G5 was all you needed. ;)

Jimmy, if that's for me...
Well I'm in post and can use all the voices I can get. I can choke an HD3 with just my base 5.1 Stems template before I even add tracks.

We don't know what Stan has now. If he has original HD cards in a G4 he is in need of some upgrades sooner rather than later.
