I don't think this matters until Apple actually releases Macs using Intel processors. There should be some released in June at the WWDC so lets wait till then.

Unless you're a software developer.. you don't need to worry about what they're doing. They're a successful business.. they know how to run it.

Don't worry. They release for developers way before they release for you

Re: ProTools 7 on Mac intel?
I think this very much matters. Given Digi's timing on the last major Mac transition (I seem to remember that the first version of ProTools that ran on OS X was released at least two years after OS X was first released), I'm very much concerned that Digi might drag their feet and the fact that we hear nothig from them yet makes me nervous. I'm writing this on a three-year-old Powebook that is literally falling apart (hinge) and I hate to think that I'm going to have to buy a G4 Powerbook in order to still be able to run ProTools.
I, frankly, have little hope, even, that ProTools 7 has been developed in parallel on an Intel developer machine. I just wish Digi would give us a timeframe for expectig ProTools for Macintel. Somehow I have a feeling that Protools LE is not going to run under Rosetta... |

I can bet they will announce their plans as soon as Apple releases the first Intel Mac which could be as soon as January so just hang in there.

Re: ProTools 7 on Mac intel?
Do we need to be reminded of the headaches of first generation G5 Powermac machines? Chirp chirp!
I don't know why anyone would jump on the Mactel so quickly for something as worthy as Pro Tools. |
Re: ProTools 7 on Mac intel?
There will be people who are purchasing a new system so it is important for Digidesign to make Pro Tools compatible ASAP, but I don't believe those machines are going to be the best investment. I think someone would be better off to choose one of the current machines which are proven reliable.

Re: ProTools 7 on Mac intel?
It is for this reason I really appreciate having a backup PC. My main machine is a PB 1.25, but I have a 2g P4 for backup. I'm not expecting my Mac to die, of course, but I hope it doesn't during whatever lag there may be between suitable Macintel laptops being offered and when Pro Tools will run on them. I really like the OSX platform, though I'm also perfectly comfortable on the PC.
