Opening a Kontakt Multi saved with 5.6.5 in 5.5.2
 

Kontakt 5.6.x is giving Pro Tools a lot of grief, crashes, CPU meter spikes. I have 17 multis I need to open in 5.5.2 the last known stable 64 bit AAX. I'm really hoping I don't have to go through and load them all one by one again. Thank you to anyone that can help!

Is kontact inside vepro wrapper? Or as a protools instrument track?

If not inside vepro...
Demo vepro6. Stick kontact in that. See if it helps.

reload Kontakt 5.5.2 - does that work ???

... it is not backwards compatible .. which is why i have still not updated K5

This has to be one of the most frustrating mistakes I've made. I updated Kontakt on my 2nd partition and made a template for a new film there, a couple new libraries can only open in 5.6.5. Unfortunately I can't open any session or multi that was saved or created in a more recent version. Seems ridiculous that I can't at least open the multi.

i so feel your pain ... i just found it out the day i got it and tried to send a friend a template and she could not open it .. sucks for sure ..

Seriously!! What a glaring limitation and PITA. Finally have my template back together but I can't use Metro Ark or the new SF LCOS. I swear it's never ending.

Just install K5.5.2 right over the top of K5.6.x. The only heartburn you may have is if you updated the Kontakt Factory library when K5.6.x came out. And even that is only if you use the Kontakt Factory library.

Wish it was that simple. You can't open a session created using a newer version, you can't even open a multi saved with a previous version

I beg to differ with your last statement - you can open multis saved in a previous version of Kontakt in a newer version. All the multis I created in K5.5.2 opened no problem in K5.6.6. Actually your first statement is questionable as well. When K5.6.x first came out with the chiclet coloring I used it in PT11.3.1 and saved the session. Came back to if after a couple of days to see if the keytop coloring would grow on me and it didn't. I installed K5.5.2 right over the top of K5.6.x and everything worked fine except for anything that used the updated Kontakt Factory library. I pulled the old one off my clone drive to replace the updated library and everything was fine. I did not create any new multis in K5.6.x

I'm not convinced any version of Kontakt works well with PT12.7.(1) at least not here. I can only speak for my own system but PT12.6.1 is bloody marvellous by comparison in both Yosemite and Sierra, (I've tried both - Sierra is better... super-fast!) I'm streaming hundreds if not thousands of voices all day with only an occasional -9173 error.
