Unused PT12 Perpetual license... 2018 eligibility?

Title pretty much sums it up. I have an unopened Pro Tools 12 Perpetual license that I bought a few months back, then never had time to reimage my PC and install PT12 like I wanted to. In the mean time, Avid went and released PT2018, leaving PT12 behind. Since my PT12 has never been registered (i.e. the clock hasn't even started running on the license yet), am I eligible for PT2018 at all, or will I be stuck at 12.8.3 without the year of updates I was supposed to have otherwise received?

I don't know when the clock starts running, but go ahead and get your update. Is there any reason not to?

Fairly confident that when you register your purchase, you'll get a year of updates from registering. The change from PT 12 to PT 2018 is simply a name change. You purchased in effect whatever the current version from the point that you register the purchase. As far as I understand, that is. I'm sure someone will weigh in if I'm mistaken.

This is how I take it as well. You start the clock when you register your copy otherwise the online stores would have old versions for sale as they been on the shelf for 3 months for example.

It's also the reason why Pro Tools boxes look generic now - it's saves Avid money. taking old stock back and reprinting new boxes ...

Makes perfect sense about the generic Pro Tools packaging. Thanks everybody!
