Backing Up Hard Disks
 

Which is your favorite program for backing up your audio hard disks?
When you have lots of GBs of audio projects and you backup quite often (once in a week let's say), then you need a backup program to be able to do incremental backups. That way, the backup program will copy only the new and modified files, so the backup process is much faster.
So which is your favorite backup program for PC and Mac?

I've been using CCC on mac. It's been working great, has some nice options (like archiving old files, setting custom drive & folder schedules, auto power on/shutdown) and is also handy for cloning bootable system drives when you need to upgrade your OS. It's very reasonably priced and has a full function demo so you can check it out properly before spending anything.

CCC looks great and has a great price also. What about windows users? I think that CCC is Mac only.

For Mac, Avid in the past has recommended SuperDuper. For Windows, the Forum consensus has been Acronis True Image Home. However, while I use and recommend ATIH 2014 if you can find it, having used ATIH 2015 and experienced first hand the complete dumbing down of the program and how many things have been stripped out if it, I can't suggest that version to anyone. See this Thread. After doing some research, the closest backup program I can find to Acronis at a reasonable price is Macrium Reflect. I haven't tried it, but, when ATIH 2014 won't work anymore on whatever OS I have, I will. Another contender is Image for Windows.

I use Intego Backup Manager Pro. It might not be as popular as other programs, but it does a fine job.

my favorite backup program for PC is free AOMEI Backupper software,which supports both disk backup and partition backup. You can back up the entire disk or some partitions According to your specific needs. Thus makes the backup operation more flexible.Moreover this software can complete full backup, incremental backup and differential backup perfectly. i love this software so much.

CCC is good for backing up entire disks, but if you just want to incrementally back up project files or folders (without cloning a whole drive), check out Synchronize X (Plus or Pro) by Qdea (Mac)

I don't want to backup the whole disk, why would I ever want to do that??? Just copy the new files.

Because a disk image is different from an incremental backup, and it has advantages. An image is a bit-for-bit copy. Whatever the file system. It restores perfectly, doesn't care about file integrity or anything, it's just the exact bits.

I do both. An image once in a while, manually, and incremental bacup every night automatically.

As for applications, I'm on mac, and I use Disk Utility for images, and Timemachine for incremental. Both come with the OS and does the job. I shut off TM and use a free utility called Timemachine Editor to set a custom backup scheme. No need for 3rd party apps.

Added: I don't use disk imaging for my audio drive but for the boot disk, and TM on both. For example I create a disk image before installing stuff or upgrading in case something goes wrong.
