newbie question on MIDI capabilities for 003 rack

I plan on buying the 003 Factory Rack when it becomes compatible with Leopard. I've heard from numerous people that ProTools is great for mixing, but if you want MIDI capability then Logic is the way to go. What is so limiting about using MIDI in ProTools though? Ideally, with the program I purchase I'd like to be able to recreate a Beatles and Pink Floyd type style where I'd be using weird sound effects and lots of virutal instruments like sitar, mellontron, strings, horns, piano/keys/synth, etc. So that means that I'll need the ability to have a good number of my tracks dedicated to MIDI. The instruments I'd record direct are guitars, bass, drums, and vocals. Is the 003 factory rack going to be capable of handling multiple MIDI tracks? What exactly is it that makes everyone say that Logic is better for MIDI? Thanks in advance for replies!

Re: newbie question on MIDI capabilities for 003 rack

I honestly dont know why PT gets dogged on for its MIDI. Ive done several sessions that were nothing but MIDI/VI tracks (16-20 tracks, plugs, samples, VIs, heavy editing) and some with lots of MIDI/VI and real instruments. There might have been some things I had to figure out along the way, but in the end, PT did everything I needed it to.

I do know that there's an issue with MIDI playback timing in 7.4. Just make sure you update it to cs4.

I dont like Logic. I havent used it enough to really find out about the MIDI capability in it, only used it enough to know that I dont like using it. The only other sequencer I really use is Reason, and 9 times out of 10 I usually just rewire it into PT and edit the MIDI there.

I have to agree, but to be honest, I did not start using PT midi until 7.4. I was used to using the MPC but now the mpc is basically a paperweight. Midi sounds tight to me, the quantize swing is more than acceptable and I can record scratch tracks without leaving PT. It's been so solid for me, I don't even bother bouncing the midi files to a audio track.
