Is 003 really discontinued?
 

There's a rumor of sorts that the 003 family will be discontinued on 03-31-11; I just bought a factory last week (used at least). I haven't seen an official announcement however this site seems to be the source: http://airusersblog.com/ Are they reputable? Anyhow, I like my "new" 003 but if there's a major improvement around the corner I'm certainly curious. A lot of people will speculate on a successor, but I mostly want to know if this is an official statement or not.

I dont think there will be an 004 as they have opened PT up for use with any interface now.

I love my 003r+ too

Well gee...If I go out and buy a 003 today, tomorrow it will still work just like it did today, even if Avid discontinues the 003 overnight.

If the product has value for you today, buy it. If it doesn't, don't buy it.

On that topic, the 002 was discontinued years ago. It's still supported.

I don't think there will be one. Not in that "all in one" format of controller + soundcard.

They now have the Euphonix Artists and multiple sound cards from M Box Pro to various M Audio high i/o sound cards.

At best there would be a new 004 rack but even that may not happen as M audio have product in that zone.

I think the 003 is a great overal package and as you got it second hand you're OK price wise.

The 002 is still supported so that bodes well for the 003.

Keep in mind that if they do come out with a 004, or other new product, they will most likely have a hardware exchange program for it. They've always been pretty good about that.

Thanks for the input. The 003 does still have value to me, considering I'm on my honeymoon with it. I only bought it because I needed a good controller for PT and wasn't too fond of the command 8 or euphonix. There are some others on the market but to my knowledge, these are the only options with high fader resolution in PT. If there is a "004" with better converters etc on the horizon, my honeymoon may start looking like The Heartbreak Kid but for now, I'll enjoy the room service and view...
