Distorted Headphone Output

I have some new Beyer DT 770 Pro 80 Ohm headphones that sound fine on other headphone outs but as soon as my gain goes past 11 oclock on my old style control 24 it distorts like hell.
Anyone had the same problem?
It also has an exaggerated bottom end but that's probably the cans.

John

Hi John,

They are probably just a lot hotter than your old ones, which is why I keep all matching phones. What you have going on is not a bad thing. Can you send then out to another source so you can match them? Which output are you using? Are you using a headphone amp?

Scott,
Thanks for the reply. No this is not via a headphone amp it's the headphone output of the C24. It distorts terribly at anything over 50% volume. Perhaps the amps are not very good on this, I mean I use to use a 100 quad power amp in my big studio for headphones.

John,

what about the other headphones? Are they clear there? If so, then either that particular board is set really hot, or if the old phones distort, than you know it's the board.
