Thermal throttling, you want to pay attention to. These are not drives you leave bare on an adapter board with no dedicated cooling fan. You need heatsinks or dedicated fans or both if they are working hard. (and a reminder that many of the drives we use don't work too hard all the time... only occasionally).

Thanks much for the info - you've given me something to research.

Yeah. The gearhead in me is going to do this m.2 blade thingy. Switching thing. I'm pretty much over software. For my studio I've only been getting hardware to use as inserts. I'm sticking with my icon d control 48 fader desk for the foreseeable future. For my audio nerd instinct it's all hardware now. Bring it.

Thanks. What about during the update to mojave? Did it show progress? Or black screen and you just hoped it was doing something?

While it is installing Mojave, it is still running the previous OS, so yes I saw the progress.

Many thanks for your guidance. This seems to be a solid choice. It also seems hard to find for sale online. The few ones in stock I found were all in the US and it seems few of them ship to Sweden. Has anyone found them for sale in the EU?

Thanks. I saw that before. They don’t deliver to Sweden for some reason.

After reading through Darryl’s links and recommendations, I am installing two 970 1TB NVMe SSDs in the I/O Crest (SYBA SI-PEX40129) Dual M.2 NVMe SSD PCIe card mounted to the pci-e board and a 2TB 2.5” ssd drive in an OWC blue sled in one of the bays (for samples). Plus, a Radeon RX560 graphics card. I will then install Mojave in my Mid 2012 Mac Pro.

I am thinking along the same lines the EVOs and the Crest adaptor .
Couple question for you et. al.
#1
Would anyone know if the the 1 TB yields faster read/write speeds than the 500 GB ,,,like in my current 951 (AHCI) SSD where the 500 was faster than the 250 ?

Or if I go duel 1 TB's I assume the Mac sees the 2 blade config as one drive ? So I could partition it into 1 TB for PT sessions and 1 TB for FCPX projects yes? And eliminate my HDD And SATA storage altogether ? or use for backup .

I believe that is the case, but Darryl might chime in with a more definitive answer. I could be wrong.
