Deleting one midi notes deletes all

I ran into a problem today that I've never seen.

Was working on some midi piano tracks. I was editing a part and suddenly clearing a single note or even adding a new note was deleting everything that had been there.

I copied the midi notes to a new track and got rid of the old one (so this is resolved for now), but I'm wondering what causes this.

Running Pro Tools 12.8.3; Win 7 Pro 64X.

Restart, trash prefs...

No that I know but when this happens to only one person (so far) it's usually a corrupt config file.
