Too Frightened to Install 11.3

Just bought the upgrade from PT10. I'm about to finish my 9-song record (has to be done Dec 31, 2014) but am very concerned that everything will mess up if I install right now, meaning, losing active plugins, non smooth install etc. Maybe I should mix/master 100% save as WAV files and then install 11.3? Help!!!

Do you need to go to 11 to finish the project ?
If not… don't… finish project, then make the move at you leisure :-)

I don't need 11 to finish this project. I just wanted to see if 11 offered anything sonically to my existing PT10 sessions.....:D

Absolutely. PT11's advantages are really workflow-based anyway. Concentrate on the album, not on tech nightmares. You can have those on Jan 1st...

Nope, no sonic advantage to 11. Stick with 10 until the mission critical workload is done, then upgrade when you have time to risk a few bumps in the road - there probably will be bumps.

I'm in the exact same boat (though my project can run into January or Feb). Was considering making the purchase and then waiting until after the album was done to install. Glad to hear I'm not the only one w/ the jitters...

Question though (when I get around to doing the PT11 install), if I'm already running PT10, can my existing install run alongside with PT11, or do I have to uninstall my current PT10 and install the the PT10/PT11 upgrade? I'm guessing the latter, but just wanted to make sure.

Thanks,
~ Mark

You should be able to leave your current install of PT10. Here is the approved Co-Install page: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/e...ll-Information

Never upgrade in the middle of a project. You can wait a week.

So I had to surrender my PT10 license and then I find out I need an iLok2. My iLok1 will not work. So now, I'm without any capacity to record and have to wait for overnight Fedex to deliver my the iLok2 most likely in two days since iLok doesn't open till 9am tomorrow morning..... MORE HEADACHES.

Sorry man. Two weeks ago I had a friend in the same boat and he got screwed. I know you wouldn't normally be looking out for such a thing as iLok compatibility but you do need to look closely at system requirements before upgrading and this is the reason why. Luckily you're getting the iLok2 quickly so it won't be much of a problem.

Adam Sandler meets Jason Moraz meets Jimmy Buffet? You shouldn't have to surrender a pt10 license because you own both programs when you buy 11 or so I thought!

The PT10 licence is surrendered and replaced with a 'bundle' of two licences, one for PT10 and one for PT11. The point of this is that the two licences are tied together, you can't separate them.

If the PT10 licence was just left there and a PT11 licence was provided additionally, it would then be possible to put the two licences on different iLoks and run them on different computers at the same time. That's not what Avid wants when you've only purchased one instance of Pro Tools.

Benoni -

May I ask, as a 11R owner and PT 11 upgrader, what is your computer set up?

NOW I'M UP SHEET CREEK WITHOUT A PADDLE -

"If you choose to use Pro Tools 11 and 10 on the same system, you will need to update to Pro Tools 10.3.6 or higher for coinstallation with Pro Tools 11"

I had PT10 but never upgraded to 10.3 and now I've surrendered PT10 and can't upgrade it. That means that I will not have PT10 with PT11. Gawd, I hope my old plugins will be in PT11.........

Paid for Fedex Priority Overnight this last Thursday. Now it won't be here till this next Tuesday. That's 6 days. Ugh.

So far, the only thing that has happened flawlessly is when I bought PT 11 and the iLok2. Taking my money, it seems, there's neva any problem. Err ting else has been a nightmare.....but then again, I knew that before jumping in....,.
