My LaCie drive died - setup assistance please

I have an older LaCie (see my sig block) with both FW 400 & 800 which has finally died after 9 years.
At first I thought it was the HD that died, so I tried to replace just the HD in the old enclosure.
Would appear that it's the enclosure that is dead...

My setup is such that I run from the Mac FW800 to the LaCie FW800 Port.
Avid 003 FW400 to the LaCie FW400 port. The LaCie was sutup for i/o from the mac & 003.

I would like to get a new LaCie Quadra 2, ver3. which only has FW800 ports.

Is there any issue with me connecting the 003 FW400 directly to the FW400 on my iMac FW400 port?
- or -
Should I procure a FW800--->400 adapter from LaCie and go back to my original configuration?

Re: My LaCie drive died - setup assistance please

Well, I just ordered a LaCie D2 Quadra 3TB with a FW800 to FW400 adapter (just in case).

Thanks all!

Basically itīs the best version to connect the interface directly to the FW port...for the functionalty of the interface.
On the other hand you might not put the drives behind the 003 in the chain.
This is not recommended as for the stability and the health of your drives finally.

For better stability and health of your system, your drives and your 003 you may just put the 003 (or any audio interface)
as the last piece in the chain. So none of your units will get hurt or lose data.

I had such a FW daisy chain/003 system myself back in the days and I never experienced any issue when it was set up right.
Do it like this...
1) Mac
2) FW800 drive
...very short FW800 to FW400 adapter cable (donīt use plugs, just use cables)
3) FW400 drive
4) 003

Every of these cables should be as short as possible and donīt use old cables. From experience FW cables tend to break by the
years which will corrupt your whole system finally.

...ah, I now have checked your computers specs just because it confused me that you once talked about a FW800 from your Mac,
another time you mentioned to connect the 003 directly to the FW400 port on your iMac.
I see, you got this specific 2008 iMac model which offered both types of FW. 1 FW400 port and 1 FW800 port.

So this is perfect for your applications.

Connect the 003 to the FW400 of your Mac directly. Will be better than in any chain!
Connect both FW800 drives to the FW800 of your Mac. Put the new Quadra first in the chain (as it will have an external power supply
and 2 FW800 ports) and put the older 2nd FW800 drive behind it.
This should provide you an even better working, snappier system than your old one was!

The best of success to you.
