Pro Tools 2019 !

https://www.pro-tools-expert.com/hom...racks-and-more

Avid are showing the next version of Pro Tools at their NAMM Booth until January 27th 2019. Avid plan to release the next version of Pro Tools sometime during the first 3 months of 2019, but the exact release date is yet to be set.

The New Features Being Added In The Next Version Of Pro Tools
Get up to 1152 voices with Pro Tools Ultimate - The maximum number of voices (or maximum number of tracks at 48K sample rate) for a Pro Tools Ultimate system is going up from 768 to 1152. This will enable you to scale your systems as needed for the most complex projects to playback in multiple rooms, enhancing Audio Post workflows.

There will 2 ways you will be able to do this depending on what hardware and software you have.

If you an HDX owner then with this new version of Pro Tools the maximum number of simultaneous audio tracks for each HDX card will go up from 256 to 384. If you have an HDX3 system that will bring the maximum number of simultaneous audio tracks to 1152.

If you are a standalone Pro Tools Ultimate software owner you will be able to purchase ‘voice packs’. Each voice pack will increase your maximum number of simultaneous audio tracks in blocks of 128 voices.

We understand that there will be options for both perpetual and subscription (rental) users and that users with a perpetual license will be able to rent a voice pack enabling you to increase the track count of a system for a period of time to say handle a large job and then drop back to the normal track count at the end of the voice pack rental period.

Experiment and edit with seamless playback - With this next version of Pro Tools you will be able to add plug-ins, change loop duration, and make other timeline and track changes, without Pro Tools stopping and breaking your creative flow.

This is great news and something users have been asking for, for a long time. We can’t wait for this feature is will mean that Pro Tools won’t stop when you want to make changes.

Double your MIDI track count - If you are a heavy MIDI user in Pro Tools for composition work, then with this next version of Pro Tools, you will have double the number of MIDI tracks available, up from 512 to 1024 enabling you to create colossal, richly orchestrated pieces all within Pro Tools.

Gain full monitoring control with Pro Tools Control - With the next version of Pro Tools you will be able to control any EUCON-enabled monitoring system, including Pro Tools MTRX, XMON, monitor sources in Pro Tools, right from your iPad. This will mean that you can do so much more with just an iPad and the free Pro Tools Control app. If you have an S6 and you are away from the console, as long as you have your iPad within reach, you will be able to control your EUCON-enabled monitoring system.

Get to the tracks you need faster on a control surface - There will be some new Eucon features added in the next version of Pro Tools. Avid are adding “Scroll to Track” and “Scroll into View” features in the Eucon protocols making it even easier to scroll around Pro Tools windows and bank your Eucon enabled control surface accordingly.

LAME I'm trying not swear, but what a Hose...Still NO folder tracks etc...I renewed my subscription last December, it will be the last. AVID does not listen.....I really try and stay positive but this is BS IMO

purchase ‘voice packs’...OH I love it!
next: 128 undo packs?
to pay/subscribe again?
i'm hoping for more, for more ease of workflow with "just" my 256 voices.

I don't need 128 tracks, so I'm not that concerned about that but as an Ultimate Native user what exactly am I getting?

It's a little confusing to read.

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

I’m just really hoping that the new smooth playback “feature” is just code for “our audio engine is finally as good as every other daw 10 years ago”. I’d be fine with that. The track packs thing though reads like something out of the onion.

Doesn’t seem to be much for the standard PT user that I can see.... maybe there is more to come.

I truely worry about Avid.

Please sell Pro Tools and start Digidesign again.

I haven't renewed since April, and having seen updates since, I haven't missed out it seems.

Having to purchase extra tracks? Good lord.

You're getting the satisfaction of knowing that your friends with HDX cards can pay for functionality you don't need to buy.

What other DAWs have a track limit, other than what the hardware supports?

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

Considering the challenges of providing value for a range of users including home studio amateurs up to the largest post production facilities, this sounds like a reasonable way to introduce more pricing tiers.

After all, I normally only see (in pictures online!) those mega-projects with many hundred of tracks when reading about the latest Hollywood blockbuster. I don’t know any musicians, music producers, etc. who would require >1,000 tracks :)

I’m pretty sure soon you will be able to rent Folder Tracks or a clip view for just 600$ a year.

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

How about...
  • Support for VST, VST3 and AU plugins like Studio One has
  • Import/Export to more audio formats such as FLAC and ACC like Studio one has
  • Two separate buffers for input and output like Studio One has
  • Ability to set input buffer down as low as 16 samples like Studio One has
  • Melodyne ARA integration
  • Ability to use VST/VST3/AU plugins like Studio One has
  • Scale timeline by click holding and moving up/down like Studio One has
  • Packing tracks into folders like Studio One has
  • Built-In Project/CD Burning like Studio One has
  • Complex routing to VIs and plugins like Studio One has
  • Better, clearer, fatter metering of inputs and outputs like Studio One has
  • Install on up to 5 computers Mac/PC with same license, no subscription fee like Studio One has.
  • Bug fixes free, pay for major upgrades like Studio One has
  • Great communication with customers, like Presonus has
  • Chordtrack/detection like Studio One has
  • Scratchpad like Studio One has
  • Many, many more innovative features like what Studio One has.
  • Super stable and fast launching. Studio One wins!
  • Integration with Waves Soundgrid and/or SG versions of all Avid plugins
  • While we're at it, VST3/AU versions of all Avid plugins and VIs so we can use them in other DAWs.

Seeing how none of these is likely to happen why do I continue my Ultimate subscription? LOL @ voice packs. Packed with features NOT.

I was just thinking the same exact thing! Sell PT to other capable companies!

This definitely will be my last year to pay for lackluster updates, with bugs!
$400 a year, and more if I want extra tracks??
Wow. Just wow!

Wow. Just wow!

You have HDX, so you don't pay more. You get 50% more included.

Paying more is for those without HDX cards

No joke. If Studio One can support VST, VST3 and AU plugins, then please explain to me like I'm a 5 year old child why the arguably most pro DAW out there, Pro Tools, can't? Oh also, if Avid is trying to be like Adobe with their subscription plans, take note Adobe also supports these plugin formats with Adobe Audition, Adobe Premiere etc.

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

Being sorta new to Pro Tools and buying PT Ultimate with an extra year extension, I have to say...

this is the weirdest release of any DAW update I have seen.

I bought it because I thought that Avid was heading in the right direction with midi improvements and adding folder tracks for 2018. I'm starting to see why many people complain about Avid.

Considering that 95% are negative, this is not good.

While I agree with some of your points, it sounds like you want PT to be Studio One...in which case why not just use S1? I also have S1 and it is awesome.

I don’t think AAX has achieved the broad mass adoption of VST and AU. It also seems more limited from a functionality spec perspective. There are lots of plugin manufacturers with very useful tools that don’t support AAX and Bluecat doesn’t work well as a wrapper always.

OK..i choose Hearts.
Avid... great, that leaves you with "Diamond-Clubs-Spades" now choose another: go on any card you wish.

Voice packs? If that means my 200-channel composition template no longer opens until I buy a voice pack, I will not be happy and may have to consider a DAW switch. Voice pack better not cost more than a Studio one upgrade. (I have V2 already). Unbelievable in 2019. I’ll be talking with them about this tomorrow at NAMM.

If you are already using 200 voices on vanilla or Ultimate, then you won't need a voice pack. The voice packs gets your native based Ultimate system from 256 voices at 48k, to 384 voices at 48k. If you have an HDX system, then the voice count increases with each HDX card you have, up to a total of 1152 voices.

If you're just on vanilla, then I guess there's no option for a voice pack increase. Which limits you to...128?

TrackerLe 01-24-2019 10:08 PM

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

Wow, just wow... (First, i thought; Is today the 1. April?)

Voice Packs? Really... What is wrong with Avid... We pay 400 Dollars every year to get updates. Now Avid found a new way to grab cash...In App Purchases...like Voice Packs. What comes next? The number Session Plays will be limited and you have to pay for more playback slots... :-)

What is Avid thinking...What is the strategy behind this...

mattrixx 01-24-2019 11:47 PM

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

Although I won't need one of these so called "voice packs", I too think that the extortion plans are absolutely ridiculous, as many people have mentioned here already.
It sounds like the marketing department are being more creative than the development team.

I mean, did they really think that this was going to be a good idea.

Protootr 01-25-2019 12:23 AM

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

I think Avid just had to rewrite the Playback Engine first to make other great features possible later this year. Rewriting the engine must have been a big task so they didn’t have any resources to create requested features. A big side-effect of the new engine is that PT can now handle more voices. So that’s what we're getting as a new feature for now.

Im in Denial ofcourse. This is just one big moment of wishful thinking on my part, even though I should know better by now :D

The features I would really like to see are:
  • Folders in the clip list
  • ARA2 support (especially for Melodyne)
  • Better Elastic Audio algorithms and third party algorithm support
  • More MIDI features like MIDI effect plugins plus a good arpeggiator
  • Track folders

EDIT: Come to think of it. If this previewed update comes somewhere in Q1 (which will probably be march), we'll have to wait for at least June to maybe see any of these features. That's a depressing thought!!

deanrichard 01-25-2019 12:34 AM

Re: Pro tools 2019 !

Well, I just tried Samplitude and it will only let me create 999 tracks. And someone wrote that Reaper is limited to 4096 tracks. So I guess they do have limits, just very high and arbitrary ones.

The idea of offering 1152 tracks, but no track folders, is mind-boggling to me.
