OT: Engineer/Producer Don Smith passed away
From what my friend told me, Don was awaiting a liver transplant and died Friday night.
I worked with him in 2000 for 30 glorious days at Capitol's Studio A. He left quite an impression on me. Condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P. Mr. Smith. |

Hi Ron,
Yes, there was a memorial service for him last Thursday (he passed away on the 26th I believe), over 300 people attended and some great stories were shared, including a video appearance from Keith Richards. Rail |

I did not know Don, but I've had people in my personal and professional life who have impacted me the way Don did to you. Keep him in your memories and pay it forward, Ron. RIP Don.

Re: OT: Engineer/Producer Don Smith passed away
It's sad news. I had the pleasure of working with Don, he mixed one of our albums. He was a great engineer and a fun character to hang with. He would burn sage and keep a large bowie knife on top of the console at Capitol to ward off evil spirits, or so he would say (ghost of Frank in the echo chamber) He was always full of funny stories and had a real passion for music and classic gear. He will be missed in the audio community.
