TPkd error & pace error trying to install that too

So I have XP sp2 and I just purchased PT 7.4. It installed fine but launching it gives the TPkd error. I looked up the error and it points me to http://www.paceap.com/dldrvr.html to download the XP driver. I do that and launching the setup.exe gives an other error. Error reading setup installation file.
Now I dont know what to do. Help digidesign please!!!!

the tpkd is for anti piracy reasons and p.t. wont launch w/o it. you might have to uninstall pro tools and try it again. be sure to restart your machine before and after you uninstall and reinstall p.t. make sure you downloaded the 32 bit version.

The real problem is pace's install will not even run. I will try to uninstall PT7.4 but it was a fresh install and I have nothing but mcaffee on XPsp2.

UNINSTALL MCAFEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

pro tools and anti virus do not get along in any way. at least shut off mcaffee AND your firewall while installing and when running pro tools!!!!!!!!!!

FWIW WebRoots Internet Security Suite is a PT killer also - At least with the FW interfaces.

I have tried uninstalling PT74 disabled Mcafee and reinstalled. Same error regarding TPkd. I have tried both versions of INterloks 32 and 64 bit apps. Both say "Error reading setup initialization file".

Re: TPkd error & pace error trying to install that too

Out of curiosity do you have any FAT 32 formatted drives? or drives with long file names? Is the computer using any language other than english? File compression turned on?

The cannot read file error has me puzzled.

7.4 dropped support for FAT32, There is a issue with logical drive names over (as I recall) 11 characters, There have been some issues with PT and languages that use ascending and descending characters and PT does not like file compression or drive indexing. If you have drive indexing or compression turn it off on all drives.

You are rebooting after you uninstall the TPkd driver? I had a issue once were I had to uninstall the driver and reboot twice before it would completely uninstall the driver and let me update it. I have also seen the multible copies of the driver installed and you should check that there are no additional entrys in the Add Remove/Pograms list.

You will also need the Pace Interlock Drivers

The TPkd should be bit the 32bit version.

I suspect that something is amiss in the registery or file system at this point but am not sure where to tell you to look. You might try one of the free registry cleaners out there. While I have not tried personally it I have heard good things about CCleaner. If you don't have a lot of data on the new install it might not hurt to reformat since it may be faster than trying to troubleshoot it.

Last but not least... Have you done all of the steps in the windows General Troubleshooting thread as far as system set up and configuration? Its importent to do this as it eliminates a lot of potential problems and levels the playing field for anyone trying to help you troubleshoot.

Re: TPkd error & pace error trying to install that too

Well, I got frustrated and wiped the PC. I didnt have anything on there so it was no big deal. A fresh install and all the XP updates + Quicktime. Now PT74 installed and runs!!! It did prompt me about the long file name and I changed the HDD name to "C". Lastly I installed McAfee.
It all works now!!!!!! No prompt about TPkd or anything. All is good!!!

Thanks everyone for the help. I dont know what was the issue but it works now.

Glad its going! Hopefully the rest will be smooth sailing for you.

If I had to quess I suspect it may have been the long file name, Digi should probably mention this issue in the general troubleshooting thread.
