003 rack + I/O Set Up solved
 

I was missing drivers (thought it would be automatic when installing PT) and I'm not sure how to delete this thread. The problem I was having:

Pro Tools does not recognize 003 rack. I am connected via firewire 400 to 800 cable, with 800 to thunderbolt adapter. The green link light is on. When I go to setup---> I/O, 003 is not listed. It lists APTAI/ in the space where it should say 003, then underneath shows built in microphone 1-2. 003 is also not listed in hardware setup. 003 is not available as an option for playback engine. When I look in System Information, the firewire device tree shows 003RACK in the firewire bus and thunderbolt tab recognizes the adapter.

id like to know myself I'm have the same issue, I just came over from using PT on a PC so this is new too me on a Mac... So I can't record at the moment
