Can I upgrade MacOSX 10.10.5?

I'm on 10.10.5 because I have Pro Tools 11 and I'm afraid to upgrade.

I'm running into issues where I can't use other apps because they require newer versions of MacOS.

I really don't want to buy Pro Tools again. What are my options?

For the longest time I ran PT11.3.2 on OSX 10.10.5 and like you there were several things that needed El Crapitan or higher to run. I decided to skip that and went to OSX 10.12.6. I knew there were issues with that combo one of which is being able to import audio via the drop down menu. You can still import audio via drag and drop from Finder though. I don't know if there are other issues with this combo.

You could, if your system drive is big enough, split it into two partitions and put a newer OSX on the other partition which is what I did. So I have one partition with OSX 10.10.5 and the other with OSX 10.12.6 and have the latter partition set as my boot-up partition. Remember that by holding down the option on the computer keyboard you can select what partition to boot into or that can also be set in OSX preferences.

What exact version of PT11 do you have? Oops - just saw you have PT11.3.1; I don't know if this will work with that version. If you need further help with that PM me and we'll discuss.

Hmm. PT says I'm up to date. Maybe people had to pay to go from .1 to .2?

I'll look into the partitioning. I don't like the idea, but it might be my only option. Thanks for the info.

PT11.3.2 is/was only available to those that purchased the upgrade to pT12 which is a weird thing. There has been much bits spilled here on how Avid screwed people over. Tony Cariddi came on here back a couple of years and said there would be one more update after PT11.3.1 before PT12 dropped and that it would be available for free. Then Avid took that back

Like I said - drop me a PM or email and we'll talk further. The partitioning is easy using OSX disk utility. Done right it won't wipe out existing programs and data. The only downside if you want to do it right without errors is having to install from clean all your programs. Using OSX Migration Assistant (aka Assassin) is iffy at best to bring your stuff over into the new partition. I'll not take up space explaining what I went through right now but am willing to share my travails if so needed.

Your bigger problem is going to be getting a version of OSX 10.12.6 but even that isn't unsurmountable. Take a look at Amazon for a solution. They have some thumb drives and dvd's with OSX on them.

Ok, thanks. I'm going to try to hold off as long as I can. I'll let you know if I pursue the partitioning route. Thanks again!
