Which exact numeric version of Kontakt 4? Have you checked the Native Instruments website (or the NI Service Center) for updates?

Which version of Pro Tools? (I'm guessing 8.0.4 or 9, but...)

Re: access violation occurred, unable to read location: 0x00000000 at address:0x5ad45

For me this issue had nothing to do with Kontakt. But perhaps this helps.

Possible solution (assumption):

Win 7 Professional
RME Fireface 800
PT 9.0.0

I had the same problem after working a while with projects in 192 kHz.

When I tried to open an older session in 48 kHz I got these errors on opening every session and backup. Scary!

I noticed that PT switches automaticly to my MBOX 2 driver and my Fireface switches automaticly to 192 kHz while opening a session.

My solution:

- set the samplerate again to the sessions setting manualy
- set the buffer size to the value with which you saved the session
or in my case 512 samples
- switch drivers in PT to Fireface (or your device)

I hope that helps!
:-)

@ Avid:
This was the worst error i had so far.
Please work on these things.
We all paid a lot of money.
Such a mayor error one day before deadline is no fun at all!!!!

I had this same issue, first with loading BFD lite. and then after doing all/most of the optimizations for windows 7 avid reccomends I began to work on a session. I just got the PERFECT take to find pro tools crashed with kontakt 4 (up to date). Lost it all.

I love usin Pro Tools, but hell Im sick of the fact I cannot guarentee that it will start when I turn on my computer, Im sick of the fact that it doesn't start and has some hissy fit when I have changed nothing. I just want to do some work and not worry about my software letting me down all the time.

I would startup your pc and press delete or whatever brings up setup and disable the onboard sound drivers. Then make sure that you have all the latest drivers foe your interface and midi.

The other I noticed which may not be a problem but I had Nvidia Graphics card and PT10 kept crashing. I changed to radeon on Digi advice and ALL was cured instantly. Check that your graphics card is certified by avid if possible as can really be big problem if not.
