Pro Tools 8 crashes all the time!!! Please help!!

Pro tools crashes all the time! Every 2-15 minutes it gives me error message and stops working. I need to reboot, but still get the same problems.
Main problems:
1. Cannot open some PT files. I load PT first, open the session. It starts to load the files but suddenly stops and quits. I need to reboot, but still cannot opn it.
2. SOme files I can open, but it gives me errors every 2-15 miniutes. I cannot even save. Other times it crashes when the files are loaded and EDIT/MIX screet comes on.
3. SOmetimes it gives me messges that PT is low on memory.
Getting very frustrated.
I have updated drivers, optimized PT for WIndows 7, trashed pref and databases. NOTHING WORKS.
I realize that I use some of the things that are not advisable with PT (network adapter USB storage drives) but I used them for months and the problems are recent. I mostly experienc crashes when I mix.
PLease help!

Other issues:
1. If I have a track in SOLO and unSOlo it, the other tracks do not start playing the audio. I have to stop playback and start it again in order to hear the audio.
2. Sometimes only few of the tracks play the audio. Let's say I have 15 tracks for playback. With no solos or mutes only 3-4 will pass the audio. I have to stop and start a few times before it's fixed.
WHat is going on??

Are you running any Anti Virus software? Either turn it off or give PT special permissions and see if that makes any difference. It's a long shot but worth a try.

Is that 5400 RPM F drive where you sessions live? If so, that might explain it.

Agreed. That is a possible issue. Are any of your drives "green"? Green drives should only be used for backup and archive. Have you done all the system tweaks? Did it work well for a time and then go sour, or has it always been bad on this computer?

Re: Pro Tools 8 crashes all the time!!! Please help!!

Drive F is only used to back up files. ALl Pro Tools Files on drive D.
I have had minor problems for month, but last few weeks it has become horrible. I have done all the Pro Tools tweaks from this forum. What does "green drive" mean??

"green" refers to any of the drives on the market that claim to be green(ie, use less power). Those drives usually either have a slower speed(like 5900 rpm) or will spin down whenever they "think" they don't need to spin at full speed. That's not good for recording where you want the drive running at full speed all the time. WD makes Caviar drives in Black(best performance with the highest price), Blue(good performance, lower price) and Green(which you don't want in your audio machine, except for backup). Other companies offer much the same.
