Boot Rom Update For Older G4. Anyone know anything about this?.
 

Does anyone know how to update the Boot Rom on a G4. I may have one of the older G4's, and according to Digi documentation (which isnt easy to find btw) I need a higher version to run HD. I have searched the net in vain to find out how to update the Boot rom.??

Anyone with suggestions?

I think your thinking of the firmware. Search for Firmware update on the apple site- beware there was incidents of ram chips being made unuseable by some firmware updates.

There is an easier way. Make sure you have "software update" extensions enabled in extensions manager, then go to control panel and software update (while connected to internet) and it should tell you what you need to update on your machine to be currrent. (Apparently it only works on 9.1 and up). I updated to 9.2.2 before hand but was successful in updating my G4 450. [img]images/icons/wink.gif[/img]

sorry I cant post a link because i really just stubled across it.

I found it at apple macs own site and did a search for Boot Rom updates. Eventually I found the one for my machine.

I needed this rom update to run HD. The version I had was 1. something and I needed 4. something or higher.
