EQ and compress just add to taste. Probably impossible to say much more without hearing the tracks.

This is why I suggested EQ surfer. .
I haven't used it yet, but, watching that PT expert video if you can find the timbre of the vocal you want to reduce in the plugin window, it just might help. .
