matching tempos - help!!

so i'm trying to make a dj set at 120bpm. i'm bringing in various tracks but i don't know the tempos of these tracks. what would be the easiest way to detect the tempo and then warp each song to match the session tempo?

I wonder if a program like Native Instruments "Traktor Pro" would be better suited to this task? It's specifically designed for this. Check it out.

thanks! yeah i've seen and played with traktor and it definitely does this, but i want to create this in pro tools. i'm not good enough yet with live controls. pro tools is so feature rich that i'm sure it can handle this, i just haven't been able to figure out how to make it work in a non-laborious way you know?

Hi, this is the easiest to use.

http://www.all8.com/tools/bpm.htm

just tap the tempo and it will give you the bpm of the original.

much easier and quicker than beat detective or Identify beat. I use this all the time. gets me the bpm and its right on. I have tried other stand alone tap tempo software and it didnt work well.

makes it very easy when using time shift.

Workspace will sometimes determine the correct tempo. You can also set an option that will import the new material to match the session tempo.

How well it detects the tempo varies a lot, though..
