6031 error never had it before ???

I’ve moved my studio around and since then had nothing but issues with pro tools. First it was digital distortion and now it’s this dreaded 6031 error. I track through Steven Slate drums and have always had my buffer set at 64 samples but now I have to set it a lot higher. I don’t use many native plugins in sessions due to being on a TDM rig with a magma chassis. My gut feeling is that something is interfering with the system but I’m not sure what. Also when this error message comes up my PC makes a beep. Another thing I’ve noticed is that my C drive keeps changing how many free GB it has left. When I boot it up it will say 22GB free and another time I boot it up it’s say 10GB free. It keeps changing between these to figures upon different boot ups.

Any help here would be much appreciated. My system set up is in my sig

I’m seriously thinking of going the Mac Pro route now with a PE6r4 chassis.

Hi,

I would say youre running too low on C drive available disk space.

Any clutter you can remove from the C drive to free up some space. drives never work well when they're that full and close to the limit. even deleted items stay on the drive untill written over and the write head has to shuffle around a lot more to access the available sectors.

So if it says the lowest 10GB available that’s still not enough space? I did think maybe the drive is dying it’s an SSD Kingston 120GB about 6-7 years old

Hi,

No because a lot if not all of that space will be from deleted items that are still on the drive which make it difficult and slow for the drive head to find available space. even though you're not writing audio to this drive it still needs plenty of available space for OS and program use.

Thanks Crizdee. So what will be the best way to solve this. Any software out there that I can buy to clear the free space etc, or do I completely need to wipe the drive

Hi,

Oh sorry i just read post 4 and its a SDD drive. not sure about best maintainance for SDD so look into that. but still a drive with that little space isn't going to be good. remove any unnessesary clutter from the drive. web browsers especially can write junk to your drive, try and keep your PT rig as pure as possible.

Probably time to back up C drive and purchase something bigger;)

There are overprovisioning and trim requirements for SSD drives, they're not like spinners. Check your manufacturer's website for details. Or better yet, as suggested, image the drive and restore or clone to a new, bigger SSD.

I’m putting this down to my new USB hub I brought off Ebay now as I did more testing tonight and some things just don’t work through the HUB. I have to keep unplugging and plugging the equipment into the different ports in the hub. Plus in device manager there is a yellow triangle on one of the hubs. Could a cheap hub cause this, if so does anyone recommend a decent one to buy

The hub is the least of your problems. You really need to get a larger ssd - that's all there is to it.
