ready to buy 003....but?

I'm going to buy something and I'd like it to be a Digi 003 rack. However, from my limited knowledge and research I can't really see a reason to buy one over a 002, which are incidently red hot on ebay right now. In all Digidesign's promotional material on the digi 003(the rack is what i am focusing on) they never refer to the 002 and the improvements over the 002??? Most companies, when marketing a new and improved model tell you why it is now superior. Maybe someone at Digitech could settle this for me before I buy a used 002 on ebay
Thanks for any thoughts from anyone on this subject!

Digi has always said that the 003 is not an upgrade. It was design to attract user from other platforms. Also to keep up with new metal laws overseas. The "re-designed" 002 (003), is only different in a few aspects. Honestly the 003 is not worth it when you can get a 002 for under $1,000. I am waiting to see if digi will implement a 003PRO of some sort.

The first 2 words I have for you are: Product Support. The oo2 is on its way out, just like the oo1 before it, which is no longer supported.

The next 2 words I have for you are: Word Clock. If you are a semi-pro with lots of digital gear that needs to talk to each other, this addition will make your life considerably easier.

Other than those 2 things/four words, I'm guessing most of the guts are identical. If you do the eBay thing for an oo2, make sure the seller is a registered owner, and that they are willing to transfer ownership to you so that you can take advantage of hardware upgrades down the line, if you should happen to need them.

Digi said it will continue to support the 002, will they support the 002 in 5 years...who knows.

your clock can be upgraded with a far better one by black lion audio www.blacklionaudio.com

If the clock is that big of a deal then why dont you clock externally?

Besides that, do make sure that you can transfer the registration.

Right, there's no telling how long digi will support the oo2.

Will digi accept modified equipment in a hardware exchange? I somehow doubt it, which is why making an external clock more accessible via BNC connectors can be a bit of an issue for some users.

Looking around the web, I found that most companies will support repairs at least five years after a product has been discontinued.
