exit expand
 

Hey,
I'd love a way to exit (auto) expand mode by a button that is closer to the center section than the expand knob on the channelstrip. That one is a real arm killer.
Any way to program that to a soft key or alternatively use esc or something similar?

I agree. Maybe a Shift+Focus button to close expand?

So, if there existed a Surface Soft Key function which was assignable that performed the function of close all locally assigned Expand Zones, would that be desirable? Obviously for dedicated on Attention expand zones those are fixed, addressable and can be defeated by the user.

Yes. For example. Dedicated on attention expand zones are already assigned to EQ and DYN. When hitting exp on a channel strip for say a reverb or other insert it would be nice to close the expand in a way that isn’t such a reach to the exp key again. Additionally, it would be nice to expand in the same way. Perhaps it performs as a toggle as previously mentioned as Shift+Attention. Alternatively, could the expand function work if a control knob for insert selection is depressed for a specified amount of time? Quick depression expands on strip knobs, 2 sec depression expands on entire knob module?

That’s an intriguing idea with the press and hold function for Insert Params.

Thanks. I think it would be a very useful feature. Once expanded, a press and hold on any knob would then collapse expand mode back to strip mode. Just a thought.

Yes, that would be great. Another option would be to use the 'config' button that is already used to collapse auto expand inserts back to the inserts overview.

The 'hold' idea is also great. And FWIW, I don't like any 'shift'-combinations for functions that are needed quite often.

I agree that two handed or two fingered gestures are less than desirable and tend to attenuate efficiency. I would also personally suggest a user assignable Surface function which could be parked anywhere on the Locate, Transport, Master Module or Automation Module assignable locations.
