You can renew any time up to 30 days past your Upgrade Plan's end date. Beyond that (or if you have version 9-11), you can purchase a Reinstatement, new license, or subscribe. See the licensing FAQ for this info as well as the How To Buy page.

as i had it explained to me yesterday, there's a 30-day grace period after the end of your update plan. if you renew during those 30 days, you pay the normal rate. if you wait until after, it's a much higher reinstatement fee.

in my case (non-HDX) it's $99 if i renew in the next 29 days, or $299 if i wait. not sure what the numbers are for HDX.
