BUG 11.2.2: black wink when using pre-roll
 

Can anyone confirm this:

1) set pre-roll to 1 sec and turn on loop-playback.
2) make a selection.
3) hit play

notice the picture go black like the blink of an eye exactly at the in-point of your selection after the pre-roll?

Only happens when pre-roll and loop-playback are on. Without loop-playback it works fine.

Anyone seeing this? Happens on both the QT window and the output of the BM card.

I've just tried this on a test rig with Mavericks and then Yosemite running 11.2.2 HDX. Admittedly, I'm not running a BM card in the system at the moment, but I'm not getting any blinking with QT window using QT or MXF video media with loop playback and 1 sec pre roll.

I've found my Mountain Lion drive, and yes, it is flashing a black winky.

As long as it doesn't lose sync, I'm sorta ok with this, as it is now 2 x OS backwards. It would be nice to see a 10.3.10 to fix input monitoring and black winky though.

BTW: How can I update to Mavericks from 10.8.5? Appstore only ever offers the latest OS (Yosemite) or am I missing something?

Sign in to the App Store, go to the Purchases, I can see the Maverick is available for downloading then.

What's your video hardware?

No video hardware, just using video window with a DV25 QT and MXF. Blackmagic drivers are installed on the rig, but no card at the mo. As you initially reported, it flashes black winky in the QT window,
so I'm not sure if it's related to video hardware. I do have QT 7.6.6 installed on all these system drives if that helps.

I've seen this blink too on Intensity Pro and I'm using older BM9.x driver (because I like it better than 10.x)

Can it be related to the BM/AJA and Sync HD combo getting reference from GEN10?

I just did a quick test with 11.3HDX on OSX 10.9.5, 5 sec pre-roll with loop playback. No external video hardware, just the QT window. No black winky at all.

Did you test this on the system that was showing the wink under 11.2.2 before or the other one that never showed it?

With 11.2.2 on Mavericks it was winking, but if I ran 11.2.2 on Yosemite, no winking.
With 11.3 on Yosemite 10.10.1, no winking.
With 11.3 on Mavericks 10.9.5, no winking.

Thanks for the details! Strangely Speedsound is getting the wink on 11.2/10.9.5. I guess it's because you don't use video hardware.

Based on that I went forward and installed 11.3.
Still get the wink.
Same BM driver that you use.
Only difference is that I don't use SD or PAL video. I'm all 1080P 24fps DNxHD36.
And my system is genlocked. Does that make the difference?

I don't have any PAL or SD video lying around unfortunately so can't compare.

Hm...

BTW: You'll see the wink on the desktop video window as well when it's there.

Isn't this a BM driver issue? Update to the latest driver frank, what happens? I haven't seen that issue sense desktop video 10.1 (I think that's the version number).

Like I wrote, I tested it with the same driver that you have.

Things that are different on my rig:

1080P 24fps DNxHD36 QTs
OS 10.8.5

So could be any combination of those causing it.

I also have the wink, not using video hardware and being on 10.10.1 with HDN 11.3.
Strangely though, the wink only occurs, when I start playback with preroll from a selected clip and loop playback enabled. If I just click somewhere in the timeline and start playback from there I don't have the wink.

Yes, that's the bug. Only happens when you made a selection (not necessarily a clip).

I can't go to Yosemite because EuControl isn't supported yet.

Bumping this up with further info:

In our studio we now have 3 rigs that show this bug. One is on Yosemite on a dust bin mac. Two are on 10.8.5 on MacPros 5,1. All those on PT11.3.1.

The only rig not showing it is the rig that's on PT11.1.3 which fits the pattern that it's a PT issue that started with 11.2.2 and not a BM driver or Mac-model issue.

At least as far as I can tell.

Any hint from you AVID? This bug is quite annoying and I can't get used to it even after all these months.

I've asked around fellow editors in my city and got a ton of conformations regardless the mac model or OS. The only thing in common is that they use video hardware (mostly BM) and they have PT11.2.2 or newer.

To me that sounds like it's pretty much confirmed that it's a PT-issue since it started with 11.2.2 without changing any other component on the system.

Is there anyone here who has a BM or AJA card and PT11.2. or newer who doesn't have this problem? (with 1080P video)

Soooo, just did a test and installed Yosemite and the latest BM driver. Same problem.
BTW, this also happens when you set PT to "disable video hardware".
