pro tools exe file missing
I had to reinstall ProTools HD 2018.10 from 2019.5 on my windows computer and now I have no exe file. it says it's missing. I reinstalled again and still no go. I uninstalled 2019.5 before installing 2018.10.
Am I missing something here or just plain stupid. Has this happened to anyone else??? |

Hmmmm, correct me if I am wrong, but I thought .exe files were for Windows installs?:o

When exactly do you get this error, what exact icon are you clicking on? One on the desktop? Windows shortcut menu? navigate to the actual software folder C:\Program Files and C:\Program Files(x86) and if Pro Tools is there and try double clicking that icon. The easiest cause of this is an old shortcut installed that no longer points the the correct program executable. |
Re: pro tools exe file missing
OK, on my Mac system I have a separate subscription for 2019.5
I have 2 subscriptions. Windows and Mac. On my windows 10 system I have 2018.10. On the windows system, the app manager said I could go to 2018.12. Not so... When I loaded 2018.12, I realized My subscription ran out so I tried going back and now my Pro tools is all messed up. I tried to uninstall it but it was greyed out and wouldn't let me. I've tried installing several times and it's not installing the Pro Tools.exe file. I hope this makes sense. I let the one sub go because it was just too much to renew so I started carrying my iLok back and forth until I forgot it one day and was dead in the water. Now I can't get it going at all. |
Re: pro tools exe file missing
OK so your problem now is just App Manager? Or are you talking about the Windows Program & Features Control Panel.
If App Manager: It's an extremely flakey piece of software. The recommendation here from many other users for a while has pretty to uninstall it. Just uninstall App Manager and Pro Tools from the Windows Program & Features Control Panel. Then download the Pro Tools installer from your Avid.com account and install that. If it reinstalls App Manager or Avid Link I would uninstall them. Avid Link is the replacement for App Manager, it's better but still needs work. |

It doesn't install the Pro Tools.exe I just can't seem to get it to install properly. |
Re: pro tools exe file missing
Ok but did you run Pro Tools (and App Manager while you are there) uninstall from Control Panel? Did it show both were even installed?
Did you manually download a fresh new Pro Tools installer from Avid.com? Check your account has administrator privileges. You can look for Avid or Pro Tools folders (not your plugin folders!) left after running the uninstaller and manually delete them. Trying to do much more than that, rooting around in the registry etc. and cleaning out keys may or may not be worth the effort. Do you have a recent backup? Otherwise a clean Windows install may be in your future. |

When I go to work Friday, I will check all this. I have 2 studios. I'm working in my home studio today on a Mac.
Thanks guys so much for helping me. I'm pretty good at figuring things out but in my 30 plus years never ran across this one. Once u figure stuff like this out, u never forget it. Ha Ha fingers crossed. :-) |
