Considering OWC external hard drive - advice?!

The hard drive I am considering to buy is the OWC Mercury Elite-AL Pro 1TB. You can find it here:

http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other.../MEAQ7S1TB32M/

1 TB, 32 MB cache, Oxford 924 chipset
Mac / PC / eSATA / FireWire 800 / FireWire 400 / USB 2.0 & 1.1

On a Macbook Pro 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB RAM, 500 GB HD,

The problem is that I can't seem to find the seek time of this drive!!!!!!!

I'm thinking it's a good drive and a good price, but any help would be appreciated.

And if you know of one that you believe is better then PLEASE SAY SO!.. Very welcome..

but Does anyone know the seek time? Or a reason to advise me against this external?

THANKS

Thanks... but I don't know how to translate that information to ms...

I know that a drive below 9ms is acceptable...

But I don't know the ms seek time for this drive...

9 is pushing it... and 1 is excellent...

5 or less ms is a GOOD drive for Pro Tools and worth the investment...

Any help with that part?

I see you're on the right track

I know the seek time can also be called the access time if that helps?

Ohhh... thanks.. yeah... you really helped me a lot... I don't think I would have found everything so easy..

I even got more information from your help.. The typical seek time is 8.2 ms and the average latency is 4.17 ms

What external do you use? (if you use one)

And Do you (or ANYONE) have any recommendations?

I'd say... Go for the one that is certified and approved by Avid: OWC Mercury Elite Al Pro that is. (if you want OWC that is)

I bought the OWC On the go and Im having some minor issues of which I think only could be related to the drive. DAE-9073 firewire bandwith something.

I just ordered the Alu Pro but havent gotten it yet.

I have 3 OWC drives and all work fine with PT. My opinion is that they are the best balance of performance vs. price. Lacie are cheaper(and not as good) and Glyph are king(but carry a price to match).

(edit) Handersson those Firewire errors could be due to mixing an 800 oxford drive enclosure with a Firewire 400 Digi interface. Try swapping the cables around using a good adapter cable www.granite.com ---> if on W-7 x64 download the TI driver at unibrain (Texas Instruments/support). Search here for the link. I'll post back later with it. B&H won't ship overseas. Mac or PC?

Also --> I've had years of experience with aluminum (oxford) firewire. No fans, even a good heat sink design run hot!
