Trackball / USB hub on SC48
 

What is the best trackball to use with an SC48? Also I really don’t like (in an install) having to use the USB ports on the front on the console. I assume that I can use a cheap USB hub on the back of the SC48 and plug the keyboard and trackball in to that.

I am even planning on making a headphone extension cable and putting a right angle connector into the headphone jack on the front of the SC48 so it isn’t sticking out and they don’t break the connector.

I'm using a Kensington Expert Mouse. The large trackball has some inertia with a good feel. As far as hubs, anything should work.

Hi,

Not all USB hubs are created equal. We've seen cases where cheap "no name" USB hubs were out of spec and caused all sorts of issues, including damaging USB keys or even preventing the motherboard from booting up. Spend a few extra bucks and buy a brand name, like Belkin. It could save some headaches down the road.

I agree, tried 2 relative cheap usb hubs. both with problems with shutting down console and going in back-up mode when powering console

I love the Kensington Expert Mouse...on the computer/ProTools (especially). However, I tried it on the venue, and the height of the console (profile) and how is works to me was a little extreme. My favorite to use is the Logitech trackball.

Is that the one (Logitech) with the relatively big ball on the left side that is now only available in a wireless version?

the keyboard is also from the same manufacturer i cant find the model but if fit in a regular drawer the only con is that is not touch illuminated ,they both share the nano receiver connected to the usb port in the back of the sc48 .batteries seem to hold tight since i didn't change them since they was bought that mean 6 month and they are regularly used .

the keyboard is a K340 also from logitech using the nano receiver ,u can unify the mouse or trackball and the keyboard to the same receiver using a windows pc and the software provided so both of them will use the same USB port and no need to waste extra usb .
the K340 is so small that if fit in a regular 19" drawer , the only problem is see is that the keyboard is not key illuminated :((.

Totally agree in not wanting to use the front USB sockets. I think Avid should provide two at the back for keyboad and mouse.

I use a cheap standard optical mouse (that came with a Dell PC at one time). Set the movement up correctly and I find this way better than a tracker mouse.

All this works flawlessly on our SC48. Not a single issue.
