Markers on the fly w/PC

Everything I've seen about placing markers on the fly say's you can simply hit "ENTER" but I think this may be for a Mac? When I try this the session simply stops and actually returns to the beginning on my PC?
I had another DAW where I could play the song and hit "contrl I" for in and "contrl O" for out. Anyone know how to do this in PT?

It's the enter key on the numeric keypad.

And make sure in Preferences that "Auto-Name Memory Locations When Playing" is checked.

Ahh...Maybe this is why? Simply hitting the enter key is not working!!!

The difference between auto name or not is that if auto name is set, it creates the marker with the default name of Marker 1, Marker 2, etc. without any further action on your part. If not set, it opens the marker dialog for you to name or press enter to accept what is shown. The marker is created either way. The behavior you are describing in your OP is what happens when you use the enter key (return) on the main keyboard. If you don't have a numeric keypad to the right side with the additional enter key, then an alternate is to click the plus sign in the markers bar while playing.

There you go, thank you. I even have a ProTools keyboard (no numeric keypad) and hitting "return" does not work... I will try the "plus sign". ;)

Can you post a picture of your PT keyboard? I've never seen one without a Number Pad because a lot of PT keyboard shortcuts use the Number Pad.

If it really doesn't have a Number Pad - it's time for a new keyboard.

Thank you ChuckS, clicking on the plus sign is a winner!
