Snow leopard update 10.6.3

Thought this might be of interest, particularly what's in italics for people with Mbox's that may have had problems. Hopefully this will improve things:

From Appleinsider.com

Apple on Monday released Mac OS X 10.6.3, the latest software update to its Snow Leopard operating system, bringing improvements in the reliability and compatibility of QuickTime X and addressing compatibility issues with OpenGL-based applications.

Apple said the 10.6.3 update is recommended for all users of Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The update weighs in at 437.2 MB and is available via Software Update.

A brief list of enhancements, fixes and updates featured in Mac OS X 10.6.3, according to Apple, follows:

Improves the reliability and compatibility of QuickTime X
Addresses compatibility issues with OpenGL-based applications
Addresses an issue that causes background message colors to display incorrectly in Mail
Resolves an issue that prevented files with the # or & characters in their names from opening in Rosetta applications
Resolves an issue that prevented files from copying to Windows file servers
Improves performance of Logic Pro 9 and Main Stage 2 when running in 64-bit mode
Improves sleep and wake reliability when using Bonjour wake on demand
Addresses a color issue in iMovie with HD content
Improves printing reliability
Resolves issues with recurring events in iCal when connected to an Exchange server
Improves the reliability of 3rd party USB input devices
Fix glowing, stuck, or dark pixels when viewing video from the iMac (Late 2009) built-in iSight camera

Is this the update we've been waiting for to make our 27" iMacs stable?

Re: Snow leopard update 10.6.3

My 27" i7 imac is plenty stable on 10.6.2.

As I posted 2 weeks ago, if you depend on your mac for making money or deadlines with Pro Tools LE, DON'T UPDATE YOUR SOFTWARE UNTIL AVID/DIGI QUALIFIES IT..

And if you decide to upgrade to 10.6.3 before then and PT doesn't work, please don't bitch about it on the boards. It's your own fault.

Wait and be patient. Lots of good fixes to the OS, and there will be plenty of "beta testers" here on the DUC (will this be renamed to the AUC? hope not) telling you their experiences.

there actually was a brief period a week or so ago that the link from digidesign.com said "Avid User Conference" instead of "Digi User Conference"

I am doing a beta test build on a second drive of 10.6.3 with HD, to see if it cures my woes.

BUT I still have my stable approved build intact.

here's the link for the 10.6.3 Combo Updater (822 Apple MB) for those who'd like to d/l it and have handy *when* you decide to install it

Re: Snow leopard update 10.6.3

Ah but I'm confused now...

Tech support told me that they were working on a PT software update - or rather there was an update - PENDING RELEASE, to address the Imac issue.

I'm sure they would have told me if they thought it was an Imac issue only?

Perhaps this is unrelated - I'm not sure the plot thickens....

chrissyb,

Maybe Digi was waiting for 10.6.3 to be released before releasing their update

Re: Snow leopard update 10.6.3

in case anyone was tempted, some idiot on MacRumors forums tried it, and 10.6.3 broke PT. So don't try it.

Re: Snow leopard update 10.6.3

10.6.3 is working fine here with PTLE8.03cs1 and an 002r on a 2008 Mac Pro 8 core. Complete Production Toolkit and the rest of my plug-ins (Waves, Sony, NI) seem to be working fine.

I agree with nedorama, definitely not risking this since I finally got my new iMac/Mbox 2 system running and stable.
