what benefit going from 8.0 to 8.04 on xp

What is the benefit from going from 8.0 to 8.04 ? Is it optimized to run more effecient on quad processors ? Does it use ram more effeciently ? I really want to be conviced why I should upgrade since I am still on XP.

If I were still using XP as my main OS I would stop at 8.0.3 cs2.

the cpu performance is a bit better in my testing. it is noticeable. the new drivers are multiclient and even finally work w itunes! worth the upgrade imo, and has been working great for me. actually mixing a session now, and has been going very well.

just checked my notes
the same session in 8.04 and in 8.03 cs 2.

8.03cs2, 78-80% cpu usage
8.04 72-74% cpu usage

not a massive difference but a step in the right direction.

Hmmm. Very cool. If you still feel this way in another day or two I'll change my mind on this. I only had it up for an hour in XP and a crash sent me back to 8.0.1. Plus I've heard a few sad stories on the DUC on this. But I really like 8.0.4 on W7/64.

So far so good here, running 8.04 on xp pro

Though I've been wondering now if there would be any benefit of moving on to window 7 pro or ultimate apart from the fact that 8.04 is the last xp supporting update?
What's the way to go in case I upgrade to 7, 64bit or stay on 32bit I know my system can handle both and there's room for another 8 gigs of ram if needed.

Cheers

I've been running 8.0.1 without a hitch. Upon loading up the new build though I'm having random issues with the pc not seeing the 003, occasional lockups on the Windows and PT splash screens and some general driver shenanigans. I'm going to work with it for another hour or so and if I can't get it cleared up I'll throw my 8.0.1 image back on before my clients show up this afternoon :) Baby needs shoes.

I would highly recommend to stay on 8.0.3cs2 with XP.
I installed 8.04 and it ran nice but as soon as I started to record it would stop halfway through and freeze up. I would reboot and PT would not boot up. I went back to 8.0.3, back to normal.

first thing i would try is do a omplete reinstall of 8.04 w your interface off. go through the entire process. when your computer restarts, turn on your interface and it will automatically install the drivers. resolved my blue screen issuesn on w7 64. i had no issues at all upgrading xp to 8.04. went perfect.
