I do use TC with Q10 and L1. It is grat, except for very acoustic songs, but for rap, pop, dance it is very nice"

The Waves phase linears would be lovely... The thing is, I tend(for rock& pop) to use multiband very little(If I need it there might be a problem I'm trying to solve), maybe only squeezing the lows. I try to get a more "musical", slightly breathing pump going with the one- band comp. L1 seems to sound better with 2 instances both working less(I have the RComp doing limiting for that).

TC Master X is the most colouring comp/lim plugin I´ve ever haerd.
Sony Oxford EQ + C4 + L2 is way better.
Manley Massiv Passiv + Vari MU or EL Distressor + L2 is the best (depends on the music).

what about the MC2000 McDsp? is the C4 better?

I love MC2000. Waves C4? Not on the Master.

MC2000 first, than TC MasterX with Produceher' SSL settings. images/icons/cool.gif

On MC2000 I would switch off low frequecy band. Kills the bass to much.

Usually I do:

MC2000
TC MasterX (SSL settings)

or

CStrip (SSL settings)
TC MasterX (SSL settings)

My 0.02 c.

So you use the same settings as the SSL's multi-band compressor/limiter? ;-P

I'd start with these settings and than, of course I'm adjusting fine settings.

Lately I'd use more of MC 2000 than CStrip. Setting to start playing is Old Smoothie Multi-band 1

I love huge reverbs and MC2000 seems to work well on spacious, ambient songs.

Than, T-Racks, L2, Waves Linear Phase Multiband.

Never finished song with these ones, but...soon! I've tried them and I love results! images/icons/grin.gif

Any idea what should be avoided with this idea?

Peace... images/icons/cool.gif

Wow, how much gain reduction are you using on the 2-bus altogether with this setup?

I can´t stand more than maybe 3-4 db compression of my STC-8 at the mix stage and then a slight touch of Analog Channel 2 and max. 2 db of limiting (with L1 or similar).
That HAS to be loud enough.

What I do sometimes is the upward compression thing if I really need to compress more, but more limiting and the sound is gone IMO.

Funny how mastering keeps on popping on the board here (L1 vs L2, Hip Hop mastering etc.)

I use the C4, but even with the 'golden combi' of C4 and L1 (24 bits), I can't get anywhere near the volume of most reference material I listen to. I tried TC' s mastering in Spark, demo's of T-Racks and DUY....

What else is there ?
I'm not afraid to crush my mix a little, but distortion is where it stops...
Any plugs I need to check out ?

Arno, try L2 instead of L1, you'll be able to increase average level 2db more without distortion..
