Getting a hotter signal from SM58 into Digibox

I was tracking a vocalist the other day using an SM58 into mic pre input #1 on the Digi box and had the gain fully cranked (and the -26db button out) and had trouble getting a strong signal. I checked the mic on a PA and it was fine. Any suggestions?

It should work fine....

I've used a SM-58 on a singer and it was no problem hitting the red. I have been reading some stuff about bad solderings. Try wiggling the plug, and pull it out slightly, and see what happens.
