I'm looking to buy 3 new mics for live vocal recording. I like the look of the Neumann KMS 105, has anyone had any experience with them? One of the main things I want is good resistance to 'popping' when the vocalist is working up close, I find the Shure 58s quite bad in this area if the vocalist is not very experienced. Does anyone know how good the Neumann is for this. Also how does the 105 sound? Any comments appreciated.

Bill.

I just bought one & have used it for vocals on live jazz recordings. It sounds 'silky & warm' with a mimimum of distortion. It also has a built in HPF that rolls off at 120 Hz & a special mesh pop filter between the capsule & the head grille for extra protection against plosive sounds. Heaps better than a 58! Also, being a condencer mic, sibilance & 'S' sounds are also very natural. Hey, it's a Neumann man, you cant go wrong!
