I would appreciate some insight into this. If i have mastertools or any other dither plugin on the master fader of a 24bit session should i still convert to 16 bits in the bounce dialogue or should i just go to "No Conversion" and select 16bits as the precision whilst bouncing ?
I know the former is the method to adopt when going directly to DAT or any other medium direct from the session but am getting kinda confused with Bouncing to disk...

Your help is much appreciated..;

If you have a dither plugin of any kind on the master fader, you should select 16 bit as the precision with 'No Conversion' selected. This does not apply any additional (unneeded) dither.

So to reaffirm the obvious, Tom:

If you have a 16 bit dithering plugin (like an L1+) on the master fader of a 24 bit session-

Select "Bounce Options" as NONE,

and

"Resolution" as 16 BIT ?

PS. I swear I'll upload some more presets soon...

Hey Frank. Thanks...looking forward to the preset contribution.

Yes, as I understand it, those are the options to choose. I believe that this simply truncates the 8 high order bits, which is what you want as the plugin has already dithered to 16.

On a related note, I was just about to start a thread on UV22 vs IDR. I've always used the UV22 on my AD8000, but have now discovered that I prefer the IDR in the version 3.0 Waves L1+.

I'm using PT LE 5.1 and it seems to be a little different or I'm missing something. When you select bounce to disk you are forced to convert either during bounce or after bounce. I've been using the L1 for a long time and have wondered about this for a long time as well.
thanks

Nope, 44.1/24bit bounce to 44.1/16 bit w/ waves L1.

I'm not sure how or if LE differs as far as bounce goes, but if by chance you're changing sample rate from 48 to 44.1 or something, I believe it forces the convert option.

My setup as well at home, where I don't have 24-bit DA and I use 24bit sessions whenever possible.

For music productions I prefer to hand the mastering engineer a 24 bit master however.
