Looking to pick up some cheap (relatively) I/O for a PT-III system, need another 8 tracks. New 882/20 and used 888/16 appear to be about the same price. I have one 888/16, is an older 888/16 better than a brand new 882/20?

Thanks

It depends how you are using it. The 888/16 has more digital I/O options and has cool meters if that's what you want. The 888 has XLR analog I/O and the 882 has 1/4" TRS analog I/O. I use my 888/16 to interface digitally with my Tascam DA-88. I use my 882/20 to do most of my analog recording. The 882 is much smaller than the 888, which can save on rack space.

Mainly it'll just be for getting more inputs to Pro Tools from the direct outs of the console. My main concern was with the converters. Since it's on a PT-III rig, it's all 16 bit. Wasn't sure if the 882/20 would be a better choice than the 888/16. Since it's meant to do 20 bit recording, does it make it that much better at handling 16 bit?

Thanks..
