i just bought a 2.2 Gig SCSI ORB drive and I am wondering if back up software like retrospect express is a good idea?? can you not just drag and drop files into the disk window and have pefect back up?? What is the benifit of 3rd party backup software.

I use it to clear space on hard drives so I can use them for other projects, my stuff all goes onto tiny DATA DAT casesttes that cost a few £ or $.

Retrospect keeps track of all your back ups by leaving a directory on your drive.

A few months from now, when you have 30 back up disks it might be a pain to figure out what's what. Plus Retrospect only backs up what you've changed, so if you add a vocaL PART ONE day, you won't have to back up the entire file. Just the new vox.

Hope that helps. Obviously you could just use one disk per project but you might need more and it can get tricky.

But being that the orb is so fast, you might not mind just dragging and dropping each time. I'm using DVD-RAM which would be too slow for that.

Let us know the reliability of that drive.

I've heard bad things. Good luck
