Why do I feel like you guys got a kind of family in this little chat room? http://www.digidesign.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif Here's another question. I do hip-hop, electronic, dance etc. Do I need the 888/24 interface right away? (I'm looking for a place to save money if I'm gonna get the ProControl. I'm up and coming, not quite rich yet). Will that 1622 interface work out fine? Were're about to record an album with this gear, so I don't want to sacrifice sound quality. Is the 888/24 a must, or can it be a later upgrade? You guys are great. Thanks so much for the warm welcome!

P.S. I also welcome anybody telling me what type of system I should get. All I know for sure is I want a lot of DSP Power to run plug-ins. Thanks again.

1622 or even 882/20 in combination with Apogee Rosetta seems a way to save a few bucks, although you'd be compromising ...... you could use the Rosetta to AD and go 24 bits spdif to the 882 or 1622 ????? Just a thought .....

It's only a few bucks realy but if every 100$ dollar helps ..... there you go.

Another one is to look for an old 888/16 .... if you can find one, that way you can use aes ........

Hi HN,
Another possibility to consider: an ADAT Bridge and the RME ADI 8 I/O. I have bought this setup and I am very happy. I tested it against the 888 and to my ears it even sounds better.
FYI, this is the setup I have: PT MixPlus, 2 ADAT Bridges, 2 RME ADI 8. This leaves 1 ADAT bridge for connection to my sampler and Creamware Pulsar system. I also have a Tascam IF-AE8 HR interface connected to the TDIF input on one of the RME interfaces. It's a TDIF to AES interface. This way I get 4 AES pairs into ProTools to connect my digital gear. I also have the ProControl and have never regretted getting it! It makes life a lot easier.

Happy New Year from Belgium

Chris,

I'll mail you tomorrow, so we can meet. I don't know you personally, but it seems we have common friends (Amptec, Hasselt) (it's a small country http://www.digidesign.com/ubb/images/icons/smile.gif )
I'll get in touch with you so we can meet. I'll give you a personal demonstration.

Happy New Year BTW

Cheers

Oh yes, back to the 'talent'. Er the1220 and a Rosetta idea sounds the coolest to start with...

But all good suggestions...

When my Apogee (s!) were out on hire I got up to the following with a 16 bit old 888 ($750)

24 bit via AES - Cranesong Hedd
24 bit via AES - Finalizer
24 bit via AES - TCM3000

In tandem with an 888/24 I was able to get a whole band into PT 24 bit - 14 inputs in total, 2 left at 16 bit for guide tracks...
