can anyone explain the inadequacies of toast as opposed to other matering programs?

If you have a continuous audio file (a live performance, for example) and want to drop in "virtual" track IDs, it is my understanding that Toast will create an audible gap upwards from a fraction of a second to…(?!) I also understand that Jam does the same thing. Kinda disconcerting.

From experience, I know that Masterlist CD absolutely will not adulterate the audio in this way. But if you are not burning continuous audio files with inserted track IDs, then Toast or Jam should be fine.
