Of all the error messages you can have in Pro Tools Pro Tools AAE-9173 Error is the one whose core is the most difficult to establish - it appears if you have an empty session with no plugins and your CPU utilisation is 0.5 %.

Recently I had an issue of it appearing since I changed to Antelope Zen Studio interface.

After several hours of trying all the different options to solve this, I managed to discover the problem:
- Zen Studio has its own control of hardware buffer size, which cannot be changed from within Pro Tools.
- The default setting on the interface is the largest value 8K - which is not supported by Pro Tools.

The solution is to first go to Zen Studio control panel and under "options" set the hardware buffer size to one of the values that Pro Tools can handle (512, 1024...).

Close the control panel and run Pro Tools.

It works as it should.

I hope this saves some time to people who encounter this problem.

Best,

Dusan

Thank you, i've been dealing with this for some time.

Have you figured out a way to change the buffer settings from withing protools or do you need to close down protools every time you want to change the buffer?
