Don't know the price in Chile but the U.S. price is $199 for the upgrade to PT12 from PT11.

You can also buy a subscription for one month to see how you like it. I think that is $25.

No - The $199 is for a yearly support plan including updates and whatever comes out during that year.

The montly subscription plan is $29 a month.

Well new its $899 but as an update i can't say for sure. I thought it was $199 and it is a license which won't expire but will need to be on a support plan after 12 months.

"Qualifying upgrades

To upgrade or crossgrade to Pro Tools 12 or Pro Tools | HD 12, you must own one of the following Pro Tools licenses, which will need to be surrendered upon activation:

Pro Tools upgrades*
Pro Tools 9, 10, or 11 (or 12 if you purchased a new Pro Tools system)
Pro Tools Express bundled with Pro Tools | Mbox, Fast Track Solo, or Fast Track Duo interfaces only (InMusic versions of Pro Tools Express are not eligible)
Pro Tools M-Powered 6–8 or MP 9

All Pro Tools upgrades and crossgrades include an annual Avid upgrade plan, renewable annually, which provides all future Pro Tools software upgrades for one full year—including the upcoming cloud collaboration and Avid Marketplace features—plus, access to world-class professional support around the clock. After one year, simply renew your plan annually to stay current.

Upgrades included

Stay up to date as all future Pro Tools upgrades are included with your 1-year plan and accessible from the cloud as soon as they’re available; simply renew your plan annually ($199/year for Pro Tools, $599/year for Pro Tools | HD) to stay current
Get help whenever, wherever, and however you need it, with world-class experts available worldwide to answer questions and resolve issues"

So I read that to mean if you buy the upgrade to PT12 you get to keep PT12. Does it reverts back to PT11 after one year? Or does it disappears completely?

Of course if you do not upgrade after one year, you then must purchase a full price version to be eligible for future upgrades.

For details about what these plans include, visit the Pro Tools Licensing page.

Sorry this is so complicated.

It DOESN'T disapear so please stop saying that.

It will be the last revision you have and nothing will be "taken away" if you don't update or jump on a support or subscription plan, just locks at that PT version if it is PT12 or PT13 at the time.

I did not say it would disappear, I asked if it would based on your previous answer.

I haven't seen it stated what will happen if I upgrade for one year and then don't renew. I assume I would stay where I was. I see if I had a yearly subscription and was on PT12, it would revert back to my last perpetual license version, in my case PT11.

So by upgrading to PT12, you get to keep that version unless you renew your license after one year for the next version.

Really complícated
Please be patient
1-If I purchase the $199 this will stop working after a year if it lapse??

2-
But instead if I bought perpetual license after a year I own the software?
And continúe working where I riched
Both situación I own PT 11
The second choice how much cost, $$ 299 or $ 8xx ??

Hope to be clear , thanks

If you stay with PT11 as you have now, it DOES NOT stop working.

If you pay $199 and upgrade to PT12, it DOES NOT stop working.

It is confusing to us all.

Southsidemusic

And no version will "revert" back if you jump off the subscription or support plan.

Really confuse
I can't find a streight answer
I own PT 11 allready
If I pay $199 for un upgrade to PT 12 it Last one year
After that year if I dont renew, will I be available continúe using PT 12 at that
Point
Second if I Buy
Perpetual license how much cost ?_________

After a year of perpetual license if I want continue gettings updates do I have to pay .$199 again for another year,
So Is there an advantage buy perpetual license, If I have to pay 199 every year
We never had to live this unconfortable situation
Nobody likes this and nobody seems really understand
Is very stupid situation

It really isn't clear at all. This is another amazing mess of a rollout. The linked page reads like a Monty Python skit.

Reality: PT11 is still buggy, unlikely to ever be fixed. So, we are asked to upgrade to 12 and a service plan so 12 can be fixed - which Avid are under no obligation to do.

This is a dramatic shift in the relationship between developers and customers.

Reality: the new *features* are a joke - any customers actually want to use Avid Marketplace? Any customers in need of a way to collaborate via the internet? Both of these are solutions without a problem.

Reality: the new licensing scheme and rollout have been mishandled and customers are not happy. Worse, Avid could care less.

I did see one great suggestion from a customer who is willing to pay for a subscription providing ongoing development (primarily bug fixes, stability and compatibility updates) for all versions of ProTools, from 10 on up.

Reality: it will never happen.

Uggggh……H

Jeffro, thanks for the link. But I have a question:

Q. What happens if I allow my Pro Tools subscription to lapse?
A. You will no longer be able to use Pro Tools after your subscription lapses. If your subscription has lapsed and you wish to continue using Pro Tools, simply start a new monthly or annual subscription.

Does this mean I can no longer use the version that I was using with the subscription and I will revert back to my perpetual license?

Q. Will I still get bug fix updates if I don't get an upgrade and support plan?
A. Yes. Maintenance updates are not tied to an Upgrade and Support Plan and will still be provided at no cost.

How long will maintenance updates be provided for PT12? If I was on PT12 and bought a subscription to use PT13 and after a few months I decided to go back to PT12 but several maintenance updates had been provided to PT12 while I was on a subscription to PT13, what version do I get when the subscription expires.

Sorry to make this difficult but I'd like to better understand my options.

Correct.

Subscribing provides use of that version during your subscription. If you own a perpetual license, you can also use the PT version(s) supported by that during/after your subscription.

Sorry to make this difficult but I'd like to better understand my options. No problem. This should be more clear as we start releasing feature upgrades.

And this can be tricky: If I was on PT12 and bought a subscription to use PT13 and after a few months I decided to go back to PT12 but several maintenance updates had been provided to PT12 while I was on a subscription to PT13, what version do I get when the subscription expires?

I would hope the latest maintenance release.

Flautista,

This is my understanding.

If you upgrade your existing PT11 to a PT12 perpetual license for $199, then you can use PT12 in "perpetuity". I.e., you don't have to pay Avid anymore to continue using PT12. And, you will be eligible to receive PT12 updates/fixes, for no additional cost.

If you do not pay an additional $199 before a year expires from your PT11 to "PT12 perpetual" upgrade date, then, when you are ready to move beyond your "PT12 Perpetual", to PT14, for example, you have 2 options: 1. pay the "PT14 Perpetual" price, 2. Subscribe (monthly/yearly)

Furthermore, the $199 upgrade price to PT12 Perpetual expires on 12/31/15.

Disclaimer: I have not upgraded beyond PT9 Vanilla Perpetual. I have zero 1st hand experience with this. This is my understanding from reading P-T-E.com, avid.com, & here.

In my opinion, wait until something in 12 comes out that you need, or wait until this November. Whichever comes sooner. But, if you plan to move forward, get it done before 2016.
Si no le entendes, lo puedo intentar en castellano.

This is exactly how I have had it explain to me from an Avid Rep.

Flautista,

This is my understanding.

So many times I hear someone try to explain this thing it seems to get more and more confusing.

The problem is, in my opinion, that we (collectively) seem to be using the term 'subscription' and for both the monthly or yearly subscription plan and the yearly "Maintenance Agreement/Support Plan".

I sincerely wish that Avid would have just named it what it is. A Maintenance Agreement with tiered support included. It would have been a HELL of a lot less confusing to a lot of people.

This Maintenance Agreement would state that for a fee of $199 for Pro Tools native and $599 Pro Tools HD per year, the holder of a PERPETUAL license will have delivered to his/her AVID account ALL incremental upgrades to said current PERPETUAL license for the duration of the Maintenance Agreement. Once the Maintenance Agreement has expired and not renewed, the user retains his/her license to the LAST version of ProTools that was deposited in the user's AVID account. Updates due to bug fixes and OS compatibility would remain no charge for XX number of previous version plus the current version.

THEN go on and explain the OTHER ways to get Pro Tools; Leasing it by the month or leasing by the year (subscription). Which like any subscription, be it magazine, newspaper, cable TV, whatever, as soon as the subscription expires, you no longer have access to that service or product. This would NOT affect any perpetual license(s) that you may have.

Now getting back in if we let it lapse is still up in the air for HD. For native, simply buy another license. (yeah I know it could be better but it certainly is clear)

I got this from AVID

PT 11 software users can buy into the support/upgrade plan for $199 a year and get all upgrades including PT 12 plus what ever we release in 2015. If you let the plan lapse you still own PT 12 or what ever the last version is prior to the lapse.
