How do I fade plug-ins in and out?

Hello, still an amateur bedroom recorder. :)

Hopefully I don't confuse anyone trying to explain.

I recorded a bass line into my Pro Tools 11. Now, I want to add a plug-in effect onto that track. I want to add the effect, but I want to have the effect fade in and out on the bass track.

For example: Maybe have the plug in effect be heard for 2 seconds, then die down for 2 seconds, then fade back again, and so on and so on..

How can I adjust a plug-in's volume on a track? I think that's the best way to go at it.

How this would be done depends greatly on WHAT the plugin is doing(knowing the plugin you wish to use might get more detailed help):o
