You just got a "new" Command 8 from eBay and now you think you've been duped because it doesn't show up in Setup > Peripherals - all you see is "None".
You are running PT on a Mac - but you are really a Windows guy - so you run PT from the desktop by clicking a PT "shortcut".
Some time ago (as Windows users do) you moved that PT icon to the desktop thinking it's just a "shortcut" - but the problem is that on a Mac - you moved the actual PT program from it's home directory without knowing it.
For some reason, most of the time, PT doesn't have a problem running that way from the Desktop - except when it comes to the Command 8 - or probably any other command surface.
ANSWER: Put the PT program file (currently on your desktop) back inside the PT folder (which is inside Digidesign folder) and Command 8 will miraculously pop up next time you try to select it again in Setup>Peripherals...
To get a convenient Windows style PT shortcut on your desktop - right click the original PT application (inside the PT folder) and make an "Alias" - then copy that alias to the desktop.
This solution was found after much digging in another thread (thanks Digi support!) but it's at least 5 pages long (probably 100 messages) and so the answer is not easy to find without reading everything - so this is the "quickie" version!
Enjoy!
