Beat Detective Help

HI,
I have a song that a girl gave me to work on. I bounced the song in to a protools session on an audio track. The problem I'm having is, trying to get the song to work with the click so I can use other midi instruments. I've tried dragging the audio trying to line it up with the grids. I've was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction? I've looked at the You Tube videos about Beat Detective, but not sure what to do when its done analyzing. Can I just analyze the whole clip and drag the pink lines around or Am I missing something? Would I end up having to record the song all over again? It wasn't done by me, but I would like to be able to work on it. It's my first Hip Hop/Britney Spears work and I'm excited.
