Why Waveform Draws after recording is Stopped?

Can anyone tell me why the waveform in a track sometimes doesn't draw until after recording has been stopped? Normally, it draws as I am recording.

The waveform overview draw is entirely a function of how much processor time you have available - if there's enough that Pro Tools can do it during recording, it will. If it's not drawing, it's because the CPU is busy with other, more important, tasks.

Also waveforms don't draw until after recording has stopped if you are using Quickpunch. At least that used to be the case.
