Delay Compensation

Hey all... I've completely looked over the "Delay Compensation" option under the Pickoffs section. Can someone explain the use of these and what each of the options under Delay Compensation does? I'm assuming that it's functioning in a similar way that ProTools does in compensating for the inherit delay in software plugins.
