Monitoring softsynths in PTLE 7.0

Trying to use my NI Hammond B4 II softsynth with PTLE 7.0. Records midi fine, plays MIDI back through B4 II fine - but can I monitor through the B4 II while I record? I know the PTLE 7.0 Readme file says I have to select input and output "manually", but either this doesn't work or, more likely, I don't know what I'm doing.

Can someone help or point me to a place with clear instructions?
