3 quick questions:

1. What enables you to use the cropping tool as a "create fade" tool. Do you have to hold down certain keys?

2. How do you colorcode the marker timeline so that different colors will shade the timeline between markers?

3. Is there a key you can hold down to lock the line pencil tool into only drawing perfect horizontal lines?

Answers to any or all of these questions would be very much appreciated!

1) By cropping tool I guess you mean the Trimmer tool. This tool is one of the options within the Smart tool. The Smart tool changes functionality based on where you place the cursor. For a fade-in, place the cursor in the upper left corner of an audio region, click and drag. For a fade-out, place the cursor in the upper right corner of an audio region, click and drag.

2) In the Pro Tools Preferences under the Display tab you can set Default Region Color Coding preference. One option is Marker Locations. This will do the trick.

3) I don't know, really. I never use it.
